The UN immediately sent in its aid, however it wasn't food and medical supplies. The UN aid was in the form of soldiers and heavy military equipment. they are not there to help pull people out of the rubble, they're there to supposedly enforce the law. what i find extremely disturbing is the fact that Haiti was never a safe and stable country, so why is it that instead of helping this poor country rebuild the UN's interest is enforcing the law.
I can tell you that the UN is not concerned about the safety of the residents of Haiti, they are concerned about the safety of the foreign aid workers and public figures from around the world that think visiting Haiti right now would enable them to gain positive publicity.
In my opinion, Haiti has a long way to go if they count on the UN and the major powers of the world for help, because judging from previous events foreign aid comes at a price. My heart goes out to all the people suffering there right now.
